Great productI purchased two of these in 2017 and if I could have given it 6 stars, I would have. Absolutely terrific in every way imaginable. Secure clamp, strong magnets, and a wide mounting disc that was very forgiving. It would accept an iphone plus nested inside an otterbox, and it would stay secure even in pot-hole covered roads, even when mounted off-center. The magnets were just that secure, but the phone still could easily be removed with just a simple twist. Expertly designed and executed.However, I needed a third just recently, and the one I received was probably the worst magnetic mount I have ever come across, worse than even the flimsy dollar-store ones that I have used in a pinch. The clamp was redesigned and is not nearly as secure. The worst part, however, was the supremely weak magnets. Every phone slid right off with the slightest jostle except a spare phone that has the metal plate affixed directly to the back of the phone (instead of being behind a case.)At a glace, the were no red flags. The packaging was identical. The first red flag was the tiny, flimsy black metal plates included in this version (the kind that all of the super duper cheap mounts come with), instead of the larger, sturdy, gray metal plates with 3M-branded adhesive that were included in the previous versions. After that, all of the re-design flaws became very apparent.Overall, I wish I could award this mount zero stars. I feel as if something compelled this company to cut a few corners, and so they cut so many corners that they rendered their product literally unusable.EDIT 10/24/18: Seller was in prompt contact and indicated that they had mistakenly shipped a unit from a different manufacturer that they were testing out. The "correct" make was sent out, and when it arrived it was the good version. Changing this review back to 5 stars because although getting this corrected was sort of a hassle, in the end they really do make a terrific car mount.My car is a sports car from the 1990s so there isn't a whole lot of real estate going on in the dashboard.I am somebody who is constantly using their phone, especially as a GPS, since I just moved to a new city. I was looking for a product that would allow me to easily attach and detach my phone from a mounted, stable position. I considered getting a suction cup mount for my windshield, or an adhesive clamp for the top of the dashboard.I thought I was out of luck because most products were either out of my price range, or had too low of reviews for me to consider trying.Then the LAX Orbit popped up in the search and I knew i'd made the right choice. I was immediately drawn by the low price and high reviews.I ordered it immediately and I must say it is a simple, yet very effective gadget. It comes with a magnetic plate that you attach to the inside of your phone case or to the back of your phone directly (if you're one of those ballsy people who doesn't choose to utilize a case) and then the mount itself, which clamps inside your air vents.For the price, I was not expecting much at all. I didn't think the magnets would even hold up. Color me surprised when both of my expectations were not only surpassed, but smashed.The Orbit is a very high-quality mount and the magnets are so strong. As somebody who enjoys a bit of spirited driving from a Japanese sports car, I can rest easy knowing that no matter how sideways I get, or how much acceleration the car achieves, the phone will not slide or detach from the mount. The clips to the A/C vents are strongly-made, and in spite of my car vents being thin plastic, it has done no damage to my car whatsoever.This mount might not be for everybody, but for most people i'm sure this would get the job done (and then some.)Good job, LAX!I have bought 3 of these so far. Two for me and one for my boyfriend. They secure well to your air condition vent and grab tightly onto the phone so there’s no slipping. Great product for the money.I previously used one of the car mounts for a phone that uses the sticky, "washable" suction-like design to stick to the car dashboard. I really liked the idea of the magnets, just being able to place your phone on the mount without handles or whatnot. I used that holder for two years! I really wish I didn't. When my car would sit in the sun, the holder would just fall off, and I would re-stick it to the dashboard, and it would fall off again while I was driving, and then my phone would be lost under my seat.So I bought this on a whim, thinking it wouldn't solve my issues. But it's PERFECT. No fussy suction cup or magnets to mess with. It just does what it's supposed to—clamps to the air vent and holds my phone. I couldn't ask for a better car mount. I can't believe how simple it is! If there was anything I could change, I would change the depth of it. The iphone 7 is pretty thin, so it's not necessary to be so deep, however it's a solution for multiple phone sizes so it makes sense.Buy this and you will not regret it!This was exactly what I needed! I have bluetooth in my car for calls but I needed something to support my phone in my line of sight for GPS purposes. I hated having to look down at my center console to follow my GPS while driving through new areas. I was wary that that the magnet wouldn't be strong enough through my phone case since I have the otterbox defender series, but my fears were quickly put at ease. The magnetic connection is very strong and my phone never slipped once while connected!! They supply two different metal squares; one that you just slip between the back of your phone and the phone case, and the other has an adhesive backing. The thing that makes this product stand out against others I was looking at is that it clips on to your air vent. No more worrying about blocking your line of sight on a suction cup holder on your windshield! Not to mention worrying about the suction cup losing suction in the heat of summer. I highly recommend this product, you will not be disappointed!
